/UCWE/ - Tere Mathern Dance premieres Mathern's latest work, The Grammar of Regret reflecting on the complexity and nature of regret by examining the ways we express it in sentiment and language. Described as “one of Portland’s most sophisticated choreographic formalists ...,” Mathern’s newest work integrates the dance’s architectural dimensions and spatial forms with the more personal subject of regret set in four sections: If, Only, Then, Now. Focusing on choreographic choices that reveal underlying tension and emotion, the dance's rich and layered movement is performed by company members Jesse Berdine, Robyn Conroy, Jae Diego, Jennifer Hong, Tere Mathern, and Jim McGinn.
Also presenting new work for the company is that wit of a choreographer, Gregg Bielemeier. This new duet set on dancers Robyn Conroy and Tere Mathern, explores a relationship where size is what matters. The duet is third in a series (ManTango and Left-handed Chopstix) where Bielemeier toys with the dancers’ contrasting statures and styles.
