birdPod, the extensive collection of bird songs for use on the Apple iPod, is now available for both Windows and Mac OS-X for Western and Eastern birds

ATLANTA /UCWE/ - birdPod, the extensive collection of bird songs for use on the Apple iPod, is now available for both Windows and Mac OS-X for Western and Eastern birds. More than 650 species of North American bird songs are organized for easy access on most iPod models including the popular Nano and other new models released in Fall 2005.

For simplified and quick bird identification, birdPod uses iTunes to organize the bird songs into 75 comprehensive playlists, each species on a separate track. Habitat and family group playlists of bird sounds include forest, marsh, urban, wetlands, shorebirds, sparrows, warblers and many others. birdPod removes the spoken bird name from each track.

birdPod display options include scientific names, bird song descriptions (mnemonics), as well as English, French and many Spanish names.

Rick Hoyer, a WINGS tour leader, commented in the Nov/Dec 2005 edition of Birding Magazine, “Such a great tool. The little iPod and a small external speaker now take the place of a heavy and bulky Sony TCM tape player, a stack of about six cassette tapes, and a mess of laminated cards with the bird names and counter numbers. And it now takes no more than 10 second for me to pull up any bird voice.”
