Road of Life - Cancer Prevention for kids launches $333,000 campaign to go national

COLUMBUS /UCWE/ - On November 17th, The Keren Emrich Foundation DBA Road of Life, the only nonprofit in the U.S. focusing specifically on cancer prevention for children, kicked off its $333,000 Extending the Road of Life campaign at a launch party hosted by founder Rob Emrich.

The launch party was a sweeping success, drawing in the organization’s investors and community allies, who mingled with staff and board members to discuss Road of Life’s goals, including expansion of the organization’s programming through a long-term strategic growth partnership with City Year, a national community service-based nonprofit with an affiliate in Columbus.

The Extending the Road of Life campaign would fund this potential partnership as well as other proposed expansion vehicles, allowing Road of Life to disseminate its cancer-prevention curriculum—currently taught only in Columbus—to students nationwide. “I am thrilled to hear that the tremendous impact [Road of Life has] made in Columbus will be available to schools throughout the country,” said Columbus School Board member Andrew Ginther, of the expansion plans.

By the conclusion of the launch party, Road of Life had received over $185,000 in commitments toward its goal, including a $120,000 pledge by the Corporation for National and Community Service. “We at CNCS are very excited about our partnership with Road of Life,” said Laurel Shoaff-Tanick, a CNCS Program Specialist. “Road of Life’s innovative programs have a very important role to play in keeping America’s most at-risk communities healthy.”

Road of Life is now turning to a broad base of supporters and new donors to accrue the remainder of the $333,000 goal before the end of the campaign in July 2006. Road of Life invites community involvement in its mission, and is actively seeking new members for its Leadership Society and Angel Investors Circle.
