Amazon Editors Select Dengue Fever's ESCAPE FROM DRAGON HOUSE as The #1 International Music Releases Of 2005
/UCWE/ - Amazon's music editors and reviewers recently picked Dengue's Fever's latest release ESCAPE FROM DRAGON HOUSE (M80 Music) to include as the #1 release for the online retailer's “Best of 2005: Editors' Picks in International” list. Additionally, Amazon's “Best of 2005: Top 100 Editors' Picks” feature selected ESCAPE FROM DRAGON HOUSE at #63. Amazon describes the album as “Quirky, eclectic, yet dead-on-in-earnest musically and every other way, an amalgam of Cameroonian folk, '60s Ethiopian pop, Bollywood excess, Spaghetti Western melodrama and West-coast naiveté.”

As Amazon announced their end of the year picks, Dengue Fever traveled to Cambodia for an upcoming documentary about the band. Director John Pirozzi. Singer Ch'hom Nimol, a famous pop star in her native country, and guitarist Zac Holtzman arrived early to capture Nimol and Holtzman's performance as a duo at the Water Festival in Phnom Pnem, one of Cambodia's largest annual public events. The rest of the band joined them shortly afterwords and the documentary with all of Dengue Fever is shooting from November 23rd until December 18th. The film will capture live performances by the band, including a performance at the 2000 capacity Spark Entertainment Center in Phnom Penh and an interview/performance for CTN, Cambodia's international broadcast channel. The documentary will catch the band recording with some of Cambodia's native musicians and visiting some of Cambodia's most noted sites, including Angkor Wat and Toul Sleng, the infamous museum highlighting the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge.

“Amazon's been a great supporter of the band and we are thrilled to have been picked for their editorial year-end list,” said Dengue Fever drummer Paul Smith. “We can't wait for the opportunity to finally perform in Cambodia and be a part of John Pirozzi's documentary on the band and the recent history of Cambodia and its culture.”

Dengue Fever is in the vanguard of an emerging global pop sensibility, making music that's both familiar, yet eerily unique. On their M80 Music/The Birdman Records Group debut ESCAPE FROM DRAGON HOUSE, the Los Angeles sextet blends the rhythms of '60s Cambodian pop - heavily influenced by American surf, rock and early psychedelic garage bands - with their own eclectic mix of American and international styles. Beside Nimol, Smith and Holtzman, Dengue Fever includes Farfisa organist Ethan Holtzman, sax man David Ralicke (Beck/Brazzaville) and bassist Senon Williams (Radar Brothers).
