Where is The Originality in Hollywood: Are Remakes the Only Projects on Tap

/UCWE/ - In recent history the most powerful movie remake or rendition seems to be James Cameron’s the "Titanic", which featured Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Kathy Bates, Billy Zane and a host of other great actors, as it put together love, tragedy and a storyline that raised the bar in film remaking. Another film that was well received was the “Manchurian Candidate” which featured Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep and Jeffrey Wright.

Over the past few years others in Hollywood have tried to capitalize on the recent trend in remaking movies, from the “House of Wax” which was derived from the Vincent Price classic movie to the most recent “The Poseidon Adventure” which was perfect as the original with Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters, Red Buttons and a list of actors that made the movie a true classic.

Now they have remade it with graphics and the current special effects available but do these Hollywood filmmakers think so low of classic films that they think that they can do better than the original director and cast?

Now we have “Superman Returns” hitting the screen shortly, it’s not a remake but a continuation of a great film series and it received the blessing of Christopher Reeve’s wife Dana Reeve before her passing, so this is one to watch.

But honestly, what is the next step, are the going to remake “Casablanca”, “West Side Story” or perhaps “Gone with the Wind”, Hollywood should get back their creativity and bring the public back to the theatres. With the recent sinking of Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible III or M-III, you would think that a simple solution to a growing problem in Hollywood would be discovered. Perhaps the movie going public would step back into the theatres or pay the pay per view fee to watch the latest films.
