Italy Eliminates Australia to Move Forward in World Cup Action
/UCWE/ - In World Cup action on Monday, Italy advances as Francesco Totti scored a penalty in the last minute of stoppage time to give Italy, who were working with only 10 men on the field, a 1-0 victory over Australia.

There was a hush in the stadium as Totti prepared to take Italy to the next round. He blasted home the penalty after defender Fabio Grosso had tumbled over Lucas Neill's challenge.

Italy was reduced to a 10 man team early in the game after Defender Marco Materazzi was hit with the straight red by  Spanish referee Luis Medina Cantalejo for bringing down Marco Bresciano. But Italy stood strong to forge forward to the next round, defeating a worthy opponent in Australia..

Some may criticize the victory but as with any sport, a win by one point is still a win, and Italy advances.
