Sapago Art-FID lets Artists Speak Directly to Art Collectors

/UCWE/ - Have you ever wonder what an artist was thinking when he created a piece? Now she can tell you. Sapago has released the next version of its Art-FID product which allows visitors to art galleries and museums to view videos of the artist describing artwork in his own words.

These self-guided systems act like virtual art consultants, providing information and content on demand, but in a low-pressure and engaging way. Visitors scan tags adjacent to artwork that interest them and view content on handheld computers. The system stores the artist’s biography, the work’s title, medium, composition, price, pictures and links to other pieces by the artist. The visitor may also email pictures and links to the video to themselves at home email address or to a friend.

Sapago says that the high tech system ads intimacy to the experience and increases sales for the gallery. “Shopping for art is a learning experience,“ says Sapago president Michael Zammuto, “collectors want to connect with an artist and understand the piece before they make a purchase. Art-FID version 2.0 makes that happen.”

The Sapago Art-FID system utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to identify the artwork and includes wireless, multimedia computers. The U.S. Department of Defense, Wal-Mart, Gillette, Procter & Gamble and others use RFID in shipping and warehousing applications. Sapago harnesses RFID technology for retail applications.
