In recent news, former band members from the band Nico and The Velvet Underground were removed off the popular website, Myspace.com on Monday August 15, 2005. Having regrouped under the alias “000000000001,” Chicago’s hottest disco band tops the charts at download.com / cnet at number 1 even amidst the controversy.
Nico credits the creation of 000000000001 in part by the sounds of Gary Numan, David Bowie, Madonna, and New Order. Whether it is playing the latest inspired sounds of Duran Duran or Depeche Mode, the band is always at the cutting edge of fashion and glamour.
Trend-setting critics Goldberg and Rothstein have placed Nico’s style into the '80s' category, a word that Nico steadfastly denies. Nico tells Anna Astley that “the 80's are over.” The songwriter is preparing a remix album that highlights the legends of new wave 80's bands like Devo, Air Supply, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, Talking Heads, and Ultravox. He tells Astley that he is not remixing Gary Numan's "Cars" to secure a Hollywood deal.
“000000000001’s funky ass disco sound continues the work of such greats as Marshall Jefferson, Chip E. L & R, Adonis, Larry Levan, Phuture, Larry Heard, Farley Jackmaster Funk, K-Alexi, Jessie Saunders, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, and Robert Owens. Chicago is a great city for disco and house music.”
