NYC Rocker Jana Peri is "Catching Flies With Vinegar;" New Daniel Rey (Ramones) Produced CD Due October 25

NEW YORK, NY /UCWE/ - Hot on the heels of a successful UK tour with her band, NYC indie power pop/rocker JANA PERI (www.janaperi.com) will release a new full-length CD, Catching Flies With Vinegar, on October 25. The 12-song CD was produced by Daniel Rey, best known for his work with legendary punk band, The Ramones, and features the track, “Go Ahead,” which was also included on the 2004 International Pop Overthrow - Volume 7 compilation on power pop and melodic rock label, Not Lame. Catching Flies With Vinegar is the follow-up to PERI’s critically acclaimed, self-titled debut EP, which featured “Dating Sucks” (the song that ROCKRGRL magazine chose for the lead track on its Discoveries 2004 compilation) and also “The La La Song” (a song inspired by her past travels in England, for which she also made a music video in Liverpool last year).

The provocative title, Catching Flies With Vinegar, was inspired by the expression “You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” According to PERI, “My experience is that I catch flies anyway. I’m definitely a romantic at heart, but having lived in New York all my life, I am also capable of being quite doubtful and defensive. My acid tongue gets a lot of exercise here. It’s a reflex. Both the sugar and the venom come through in my music and people tend to be attracted to each.” “Catching Flies With Vinegar” is also the title of one of the tracks on the CD. The song is very poppy with Beatle-esque harmonies, but the sweet sound of the melody is undercut by the lyric and illustrates PERI’s point: “Catching flies with vinegar/Offering my honey with a shot of bitters on the side.”

Finding the right producer to capture the excitement of PERI’s live sound was very important to her: “I had to find someone who understood all my musical influences – from British Invasion to punk - and could bring them to life in the recording. I wanted the vocal harmonies for which I’m known to be prominent in the mix, but I didn’t want to lose the NYC edge, which characterizes my music. I knew Daniel Rey was the right guy for the job.” Rey, also an exceptional guitarist, complements PERI’s guitar playing by lending soaring leads and adding sonic texture to the CD. Other musicians include drummer Rob Holm and bassist Jim Stellato who have played in PERI’s live band.

“I’m really proud of the new CD,” PERI enthuses. “I’ve matured a lot since the EP was released and this album really showcases the breadth of my talent as a musician and songwriter. You can hear influences of country and even jazz, which are not what people would necessarily expect from me. Some lyrics are funny and some are quite heavy. I cover a lot musical territory, but it’s just different aspects of my personality shining through and it all rocks.“
