Maxi Priest hits London alongside Gregory Isaacs, Ken Boothe & Al Campbell with Bollywood Strings
/UCWE/ - Grammy nominee Maxi Priest hits London’s Wembley Arena Pavilion for a one-off show next month. ARM and LJS International presents: ‘2 The Max – Maxi Priest & Friends,’ Nov. 12, 2005. The event will herald Maxi’s return to form as the UK’s biggest reggae star and one of the most respected artists in his field.
Hits such as ‘Some Guys Have All The Luck,’ ‘Close To You,’ US No: 1 hit, ‘That Girl’ and the Cat Steven’s cover ‘Wild World’ helped, Lewisham-born, Priest gain worldwide recognition for his lovers rock brand of reggae. Now, 20 years after releasing his debut album, the man who has worked alongside artists such as Roberta Flack, Shabba Ranx and Shaggy, will be performing a selection of tracks from his vast back-catalogue and his Album ‘2 The Max.’
A former carpenter and the eighth of nine children, Maxi Priest was born in South London to Jamaican parents. In 1984, he made history by becoming the first UK artist to reach number 1 in Jamaica. Since then, he has released 10 albums has established himself as a hugely successful crossover reggae artist.
Further strengthening the line up will be reggae superstar Gregory ‘The Cool Ruler’ Isaacs, who’s massive hit ‘Night Nurse’ was covered in 1987 by Simply Red, Al Campbell, Lovers Rock King and Rock Steady-era legend Ken Boothe.
The show, which will also be raising funds for the ‘Save The Children’ charity will also feature The Bollywood Orchestra Strings.
